One article said that the farmers were paid about $2 per day. Those farmers slept in barracks with bunk beds and typically worked about 8-10 hours each day (sometimes more if they wanted to take time off). Each farmer would manage I believe 5+ computers and watched over the various characters as the computers ran their bot programs (they did not play). The farmers would only turn off the bot programs when a good drop came and they needed to hand it over to the "sellers." The sellers are like farmers, except they don't actually farm, they just focus on selling the items the farmers find. The sellers know the values of everything and focus on running auctions (i.e. WoW), or selling directly in-game. The farmers would also take over if another character walked up to one of their bots and attempted to talk to them. In many games, GMs appear when characters log excessive hours and try to determine if they are farmers or just players who play too much. If the farmers don't disguise themselves well, the GM could ban the player. If the other player is a regular person like us, if that player decides it is a bot and reports them to a GM, a possible ban could result if the GM investigates. That's why they try to answer you quickly when you write them, even if it is in bad english. Even though $2 a day sounds horrible, apparently in the parts of China where they work (i.e. away from major cities), the wages a slightly better than those if you busted your butt farming food. If it were me, I'd much rather watch computer screens indoors than break my back outside being a fieldhand. Not that I'm making excuses for farmers...afterall they do have a NEGATIVE effect on the in-game economy. But I can't blame the farmers as much as I blame the gamers who buy gold. Buying powerleveling services is one thing, but buying items and gold is just lazy. |

I'm not endorsing the gold farmers, there business is to rip off other peoples ideas and games. But its big business, and they select these regions to get the most cost effective work force labour, and to escape certain new age laws concerning the internet and taxation. But the biggest problem is your quoting a game site! I'm sure the post a artical once every... wait since you piece was 2005 I'm guessing once evry 3-4 yrs inciting a moral panic amoung gamers about gold famers, why? If they didn't those pretty lil ads that infest the site would disappear. Game producers would with draw there support. But anyway this is a discussion for another thread. |

Well it kinda relates to the original post. I'm okay with it at least. I didn't know there was all this behind buying some un-ID golds for cheap bulk in Lions Arch. I figured it was a familiar scenario and got more than I bargained for.

Just because some people sell Unid'd golds for cash doesn't make us all "bots." I personally am going for my Treasure Hunter title and making any kind of return on high Q items is important. Selling 7 items for a set amount, usually worth more than the merch will pay, offsets the costs and basically helps both people with their title goals. Now, I'm not saying there aren't bots doing this but please avoid the blanket statements. Selling the unid's and missing out on max mods and inscrips? Ask yourself this... do you REALLY need another inscrip or mod pinned onto a mule?
And ANET... please make inscriptions STACKABLE!! |

Whilst on the topic off Unid'd gods, awhile back I brought some from a character (probably a bot, I dont know...) in Ascalon. When i identified them I tried to salvage some mods of them (there was a axe with +30, etc.) but I couldnt. When i went to salvage the icon was just a hammer, and I could only salvage crafting materials from them. Is that the case wih all unid'ds?

was you using an expert salvage kit or the just a plain salvage kit? You should be able to Expert Salvage an item off of most blue/purple/gold items...but you need to use the expert kit
